Channel Sink Series: What They Are and Who Buys Them

Oct 16, 2026

The channel sink is the quiet workhorse of the sink range: it sells steadily into bars, prep areas and hospitality kitchens, and it is often the model that converts a first-time buyer who is not ready to commit to a full container of residential sinks.

What a channel sink is

A channel sink is a single bowl manufactured with an integrated step or channel formed into one side or along the base. The step gives water and debris somewhere to go instead of pooling across the whole bowl, and it also provides a ledge for a cutting board or a rack. The result is a bowl that works as a small preparation station rather than as a plain washing basin, which is why the format is popular where space is limited but function is not.

Single step, R10 corners and what each specification means

  • Single step: one integrated ledge, which keeps the bowl usable for larger items while retaining a preparation surface.
  • R10 radius corners: a 10 mm radius where the base meets the wall, tighter than the older R15 and R25 profiles and easier to wipe clean.
  • Handmade construction: welded from sheet rather than pressed, which is what allows the step, the depth and the tight corners to be combined in one bowl.
  • Both bowl sizes: single bowl for bars and prep, larger models for kitchen islands and utility areas.

Who buys channel sinks

  • Hospitality and food service: bar stations, coffee counters and back-of-house prep areas, where a compact sink with a ledge saves bench space.
  • Residential renovation: apartments and small kitchens in which the sink has to serve as both preparation surface and washing area.
  • Project and multi-unit buyers: serviced apartments, student accommodation and rental refurbishment, where durability and a standard footprint matter more than styling.
  • Importers building a range: a channel sink adds a differentiated model to a range that would otherwise be all single and double bowls.

What to check on the sample

  • The step must be level and the ledge true, otherwise a board will not sit flat.
  • Check the radius at the bowl corner, then check that the drain sits clear of the step so the bowl still empties fully.
  • Confirm the drain position and size against the waste fitting you intend to supply with it.
  • Look at the weld and polish on the step itself, which is the most visible part of the bowl and the hardest to finish well.
