Shower Products Sourcing Guide: Rain Showers, Slide Rails and Thermostatic Mixers

Sep 18, 2026

Shower products are the most certification-sensitive category in a bathroom programme, and the one where a small specification omission costs the most. A thermostatic mixer that is not approved for the destination market cannot legally be sold into it, however good the price. Here is how to structure the specification.

Modern bathroom with a freestanding bathtub and wood cabinetry

Decide which of the four product types you are buying

  • Rain shower heads. Single function or multi-function, stainless steel or brass, wall mounted or ceiling mounted. The specification is mostly about arm length, head diameter and the swivel joint.
  • Hand showers with slide rails. The rail height and its fixing method decide how the product installs on tile; the hose length and the bracket material decide how it lasts.
  • Shower columns and systems. Combining the head, hand shower and mixer in one unit looks efficient but concentrates the warranty risk, so specify the cartridge carefully.
  • Thermostatic and single-lever mixers. The thermostat is the safety component, not a convenience feature: it maintains the outlet temperature when another outlet in the building is used.

The technical specification

  • Cartridge type and rating. For a thermostatic mixer, ask for the thermostatic cartridge supplier and the cycle rating. For a single-lever mixer, the ceramic cartridge rating.
  • Body material. Brass bodies with a documented composition, particularly where the market has low-lead requirements.
  • Finish. Chrome, brushed nickel, matte black or PVD colours, with a test result behind the claim.
  • Flow rate. Typically 6 to 9 litres per minute in European and Australian ranges, with a water-saving insert as standard in many markets.
  • Fixings and hoses. Hose length, inner tube material and the bracket or riser fixing, which is where installation complaints originate.

Certification is market-specific and not transferable

European shower products are typically assessed against the EN standards for mixers, shower heads and flexible hoses; the UK regulated market asks for WRAS approval on products connected to the mains; Australia requires WaterMark; North America works through cUPC and the low-lead requirements. Confirm which certificate applies to the exact product you are buying, and ask for the certificate number and scope before tooling or packaging is finalised.

Finish coordination across the wet area

The strongest commercial trend in bathrooms is a single finish running through the basin tap, shower mixer, shower head, accessories and even the sink. Buyers increasingly expect one supplier to deliver all of it in the same tone. Where that is not possible, the next best approach is to buy the visible fittings from one factory and keep the accessories visually secondary.

Packaging and spares

Shower products are boxed with multiple components, so specify how the parts are secured: loose hoses and detached handles cause most transit damage. Ask for the packing method, the drop test result and the carton dimensions, because volumetric weight frequently decides whether a shower programme is profitable to ship. Spare thermostatic cartridges, seals and hoses should be available as separate items, and it is worth ordering a small stock with the first container rather than shipping replacements individually later.

Commercial terms

For reference, TEGAO works to a minimum of 100 pieces per item, a 35-45 day production lead time, EXW, FOB or CNF terms, payment by T/T or L/C, and loading from Guangzhou or Shenzhen. Where a market requires its own certifications, confirm that the certificate exists for the specific model before the order is placed rather than assuming it can be added afterwards.

Shower products sit alongside the sink and basin range at TEGAO: bathroom basins, handmade sinks and pressed sinks are all supplied to the same project buyers. Send your shower specification through the contact page with the destination market and the certificate required, and the factory will confirm what can be supplied.
